When Curlew films was being formed, it took a while to think of a name. It could have been “Huddersfield video production services”, or “Huddersfield Film Unit” or “Marsden Video Makers”, or any number of descriptive-but-not-exactly-catchy names. In any case, I don’t just work in Huddersfield.

Then there’s “classical” names like “Omega Film”, “Horizon Video”, “Zeus Media”, “Olympus Films”.

Then there’s things like “Low Budget Films”, which might be helpful in one way but which don’t sound very inspiring.

So why “Curlew Films”?

Well, I’m based in the Colne Valley. The curlew is my local bird – you can hear its distinctive call all over the moors. I’m proud to serve West Yorkshire and work with small, local businesses and organisations. Naming my brand after the curlew helps reinforce my sense of being grounded here.

But the curlew isn’t limited to West Yorkshire. You find them all over the UK and the rest of the world. And so, too, you will find me filming here, there and everywhere, either for local clients or for businesses and organisations based anywhere in Britain and sometimes abroad.
