It’s always good if you can combine work and pleasure.
Recently, I was in the Summer Isles off the coast of NW Scotland, climbing as many mountains as possible with friends (as pictured in the photo shot with my phone), but I also needed to master a new drone for an upcoming shoot. Where better to try it out AND capture some dramatic footage at the same time?
I never get tired of Scotland and the landscape north of Ullapool is utterly sublime, with lone mountains standing proud amongst hundreds of lochs and lochans and the land gradually dissolving into the sea. The view across to the Outer Hebrides from the mountain tops on a good day is astounding. So too is the view from the drone.
One of the islands, by the way, is for sale. Offers over £500K. There’s a cabin and solar power and the estate agent’s website warns: “Viewing of the island is limited due to weather conditions and means of access. Anyone visiting the island will need to wear outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear and will have to be of a level of fitness to travel by boat and climb the ladders to reach the island.”
I’m very tempted. If anyone fancies going halves/thirds/quarters, let me know. Planning permission for a studio might be tricky but it’s worth a shot.
